Any grandparents raising grandkids struggle with not being tough enough?

I am naturally too easy going and know I need to be helping to make her strong, disciplined and respectful and not be coddled. She is a sweet heart, but I I know I won't always be here and she will be in for a rude awakening if anything were to happen to me. Do I have to change my whole personality for her sake?
