Is it possible for your callus to itch?

I have one on my middle finger and it itches to the point where I have an uncontrollable need to itch or rub it. What do I do to relieve it? I'm trying to remove the callus the right way by soaking in hot water and removing it with one of those stones but I keep rubbing it. It won't go away if I can't stop itching and rubbing it.
