Can an electrically powered transfer pump be used to transfer gasoline?

My friend has a plug in transfer pump he wants to try to use to transfer some gasoline from his old truck to his new one. The transfer pump is designed to transfer water, not gasoline, but he won't listen to anyone. Can anyone here give me any reasons (ie it will blow the hell up) in technical terms so that I can make a better argument?
